Our Trip to Alaska

Get ready for a laughter-filled journey as I recount our hilarious trip to Alaska on the Holland America Eurodam with Ricky, my Grandparents, and an unexpected twist of sickness. Brace yourself for some comedy gold!

So, there we were, cruising along on the Eurodam when disaster struck on the second day. I became the unlucky victim of a mysterious illness that decided to accompany me for the entire trip. Talk about bad luck! But hey, who needs perfect health when you have impeccable comedic timing, right?

Despite my less-than-ideal condition, we managed to have a blast onboard. We ate everything in sight, and I mean everything! Our appetites were on a serious mission to conquer every food station on the ship. We might have set a world record for most calories consumed during a cruise, but hey, rules don’t apply when you’re on vacation, right?

In between food comas, we took it upon ourselves to become the Scrabble champions of the sea. Ricky and I unleashed our superior wordplay skills against our unsuspecting opponents, leaving them shaking their heads in awe and confusion. Never underestimate the power of a couple armed with a dictionary and a thirst for victory!

But the entertainment didn’t stop there. We attended dance performances that had us rolling in the aisles (figuratively, of course). Let’s just say we didn’t expect quite so many interpretive dance moves and unexpected costume choices. We had no choice but to channel our inner dance critics, stifling our laughter as we applauded their efforts.

In the midst of all the laughter, we found ourselves at a Captain Talk where we learned more about Alaska than we ever thought possible. Our heads were brimming with fascinating facts about the state’s culture, history, and the dos and don’ts of encountering a moose. Apparently, offering them a high-five is not a recommended approach. Who knew?

Now, here’s the big reveal! Despite feeling like a walking punchline, I managed to see the breathtaking sights from our balcony. From adorable little towns to an abundance of wildlife, Alaska showcased its splendor. I spotted orca whales doing their best impersonation of synchronized swimmers, grey whales putting on their best whale tail wave, wolves trying to audition for the next Twilight movie, chill turtles enjoying the scenery, and birds in such massive numbers that I was convinced they were secretly plotting world domination.

Alaska undeniably became the most stunning place I’ve ever visited, proving that even with a side of sickness, it was worth every moment. I’m already counting down the days until our next Holland America cruise, where this time, I promise we’ll actually step off the ship and explore the wonders that await us.

Oh, and as for my illness? Plot twist! It turned out to be COVID. Who knew I could make a common sickness into a viral sensation? Pun intended! But worry not, I emerged with a newfound appreciation for hand sanitizer and an extraordinary ability to find humor even in the most unexpected situations.

So, if laughter is the best medicine, consider this trip a laughter-infused cure for all ailments. Now, who’s ready for the next adventure? Alaska, here we come!
